Christchurch Women's Association
The CCWA has been running for many years at Christchurch. We meet in the Parish Hall. The meeting begins with the prayer of St Francis to remind us of the needs of those around us. Our meetings are informal and friendly, tea and biscuits are on offer, and we always make time for a chat. The evening is concluded with a raffle.
We often have a guest speaker giving a talk or a demonstration, or we organize an activity such as a quiz. Notable evenings have involved talks on the Second World War, the local history of Eltham and its environs, and notable historic figures. Among the memorable demonstrations were flower arranging and how to write an icon.
Every year we have an outing to Aylesford Priory where we spend the day relaxing, attending Mass, listening to a talk by one of the Carmelite Friars and generally enjoying the lovely surroundings and the hospitality always on offer.
During Lent, we meet at the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy for a special meditation on the Stations of the Cross. The warm welcome extended by the Sisters and the beauty of the meditation always make this one of the most enriching events of the year.
In September we meet in the Priory garden to celebrate Our Lady’s birthday by saying the Rosary at the Grotto.
Our other activities include a summer outing to a place of particular interest, and supporting our local theatres.
All are welcome to take part in our meetings and activities, including gentlemen. There is a small charge of £2 for visitors to the meetings.
Do come along and see whether this is the society for you!
